Margo Amgott provides transitional support and project management to mission-oriented nonprofit organizations through her consulting company, Amgott Interim LLC. She has served in leadership roles in state and local government, higher education, and leading nonprofits.
- Most recently, Amgott was asked back by the founder and the board president of Studio in a School to oversee growing programs and the leadership of $7M organization providing visual arts education to students in schools throughout New York City. Engage Board and staff in financial and programmatic assessment to right-size the budget and enhance sustainability and the organization’s strong future.
- Amgott directed the largest childcare organization in Connecticut at Children’s Learning Centers of Fairfield County with 8 facilities in Stamford serving 900+ children from 6 weeks to 5 years, including Head Start- and Early Head Start-eligible and special needs. Led financial sustainability process, facilitating revenue enhancements and budget reductions to close longstanding gap. She oversaw $18M+ operating budget and more than 200 staff including classroom teachers covered by collective bargaining agreement. Worked closely with City of Stamford and the Stamford Public Schools to enhance educational equity and student success. 2023–2024.
- Amgott directed a United Way chapter serving lowest-income inner-city communities along with the “gold coast” of suburban Connecticut as interim president & CEO. She reinvigorated the board of directors and co-led a board and staff process resulting in the successful merger of two organizations. She introduced them to new sources of revenue and program impact, earning a $1M grant from Connecticut’s Social Equity Council and an additional $1M grant to the partner organization for work in Bridgeport and Stamford, CT.
- Earlier, she successfully completed an assignment as interim executive director at the Jacob Burns Film Center where she reopened a five-screen art-house movie theater and community-based education programs closed for 15 months during the pandemic. She raised $2M+ in unrestricted gifts while the theaters were closed due to Covid.
- She served as interim executive director for Studio in a School, award-winning arts and social justice organization overseeing instruction by teaching artists to more than 30,000 students each year in publicly-funded schools in New York City.
- Previously, she served as Interim CEO at Hearing Health Foundation, the largest nonprofit funder of hearing and balance research in the U.S. and a leader in driving new innovations and treatments for people with hearing loss.
- She twice served as interim executive director at Jewish Community Project Downtown, interim COO at National Council of Jewish Women, interim associate provost at Hunter College, acting vice president for public affairs at Montefiore Health and executive director of the NYU Child Study Center.
- Earlier in her career, Amgott directed the City’s Early Intervention Program for children with developmental delays and disabilities at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and 15+ years at Columbia University overseeing programs including student health and campus wellness and associate dean of the Graduate School of Journalism.
- She served as budget & fiscal director for New York City’s Department of Juvenile Justice.
- Amgott helped to open Woodhull Hospital, working on behalf of NYC Health + Hospitals and SUNY Downstate Medical Center, returning to Downstate as department administrator for women’s health across University Hospital and two city-run hospitals.
Amgott holds an MPA from NYU’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, and a BA from Barnard College, Columbia University.
